What gives rise to adaptive behavior of agential systems? What are the ecological resources that are available to embodied agents which allow them to form functional systems with changing environments? In this symposium, participants from diverse disciplines -- from biology, cognitive science, artificial intelligence to nonlinear dynamics -- will present their views on adaptive behavior and its ecological foundations. By focusing on the informational, dynamical, and multiscale aspects of the ecology of agents, we hope to gain insight into how perceiving agents can engage with the unfolding of the world while transforming it to align with their evolving goals.
